ISLAND LIVING

MEDITERRANEAN

GOZO

Samudra is located in the middle of the Mediterranean sea on the island of Gozo in the village of Qala (which derives from Arabic and Maltese for a sheltered haven).

Gozo, which means 'joy', is a little spit of land sitting in the sea with a unique rocky coastal landscape, waters so crystal-clear and the sky so bright blue that you’ll have to rub your eyes to believe what you are seeing.

Gozo is the second-largest island of the Maltese Archipelago and is an ideal destination for those who treasure a slow, relaxed rhythm of life and cherish the unspoiled countryside and being close to the sea. The beauty of surrounding nature all around creates an ambiance of complete peace.

The island is known and loved for its beautiful green valleys, scenic hills, hidden beaches, and crystal clear blue waters. Made up of 12 villages and a small capital, it is rural, quiet, relaxing, and full of local charm.

Gozo is also rich in historic locations such as the 15th century Cittadella castle and the Ggiantija temples, which along with the other Megalithic Temples of Malta are among the world's oldest free-standing structures. Gozo is also said to have been the home of the mythological Calypso, the nymph from Homer’s Odyssey. The island has some amazing natural features such as the Inland sea and Wied il-Mielah Window.

There are many beaches on the island, great hiking trails, and Gozo is considered one of the top diving destinations in the Mediterranean. Gozo has a deep culture in organic farming bringing an abundance of locally grown fresh vegetables and fruit; making it the perfect location for wellness and healing.

From November to March the island is full of lush green fields, wild flowers and herbs, and crisp air, rains fall with mostly sunny days. The sea stays warm to swim in until around the end of December. From April the island begins to warm up leading into the summer months. The warm weather stays until November before the rains begin. These seasonal changes bring great weather to retreats all year round.

RETREAT  CENTRE

At the edge of the island just before the beach, between the farmers fields and the village shepherds home, you will find our three Samudra Farmhouses.

The houses are over 400-years-old and have been kept in the traditional style, full of ancient history.

Next to the Farmhouses is our Samudra Shala - our sacred space for sessions and introspection. The Shala has an underground cave dating back to the Palaeolithic times, a unique healing space providing Samudra with depth and authenticity.

THE            SHALA

Shala is a Sanskrit word meaning “house” or “home” referred to as a place of safety, temple, retreat or sanctuary. Our Samudra Shala sits between our Farmhouses, an ancient building restored with authentic features including our underground cave which is over 4000-years-old.

The Shala is a silent sacred space where we host sessions during the retreat. On the first floor you will find many ancient wisdom and holistic healing books, oracle cards, games and a cosy space to unwind with a cup of tea. Upstairs we have a private therapy room that extends to an outdoor terrace leading up to a rooftop with sunrise views over the sea.

The underground cave is a unique feature that very few houses still have on the island. You will experience yoga, meditations, breath-work, healing treatments, sound healings and ceremonies in the cave for a deeply immersive experience.

Spiritual folklore tell that caves were used in ancient practices to give us the experience of being inside a womb. This takes us back to the space beyond this physical realm, to the source of creation, before we were given belief systems and attachments. Here we are submersed into our intuitive wisdom, healing abilities and limitless potentials.

IL POMO  BIANCO

Il Pomo Bianco is our main Samudra Farmhouse that sits 150m from our Shala. The house is kept in an authentic traditional farmhouse style dating over 400-years-old, offering unique architecture and charm.

The farmhouse has four double bedroom and one twin bedroom set across three floors. With stunning south-facing, sea and island views, a pool with a backdrop of farmers fields, a dedicated dining room, an indoor and two outdoor relaxing lounge areas for socialising.

Pomo Bianco has been recently renovated in Feb 2025 with the intention to create a space for community. The house has a large kitchen where the chefs prepare our Mediterranean inspired menu, served over our large dining tables where we gather together morning and evening for meal times. With the house providing so much space, guests can find many areas to lounge and relax in either by the pool, on the rooftop terrace or in the cosy living area. Pomo Bianco is so much more than a retreat accomodation, it is a family home designed to make you feel nurtured where you can truly slow down and relax.

TA          KEMMUNA

The retreats have been solely running in Ta Kemmuna Farmhouse for many years until 2023 when we decided to open up new houses to create more space for retreats. Ta Kemmuna is over 400-years-old with a rustic charm, sitting on a water portal that is connected to Comino Island.

The house is set on three floors, with its private pool overlooking the untiring views of Blue Lagoon, Comino, and Malta. The heart of the home is the triangular common area with a living room, kitchen, dining, and a fireplace. The house is filled with traditional Gozitan charm, blended with a modern rustic style. The house sits directly facing East, offering an unobstructed view of the sunrise right over the horizon.

The house has two bedrooms set across two floors; a twin room on the main level next to the pool, and a queen room on the top floor with a large private terrace. There is another room downstairs used for therapy sessions that is attached to an underground healing cave.

The garden outside the pool area leads to nature trails overlooking breathtaking views of the countryside and the surrounding seas. Our neighbour, who is a shepherd and can be seen daily walking her sheep and goats by the house, and you can also buy fresh goats cheese and milk from her. In the garden there is a fire pit in between the cactus, where we host our fire ceremonies during retreats underneath the stars.

TA                 ROSINA

Ta Rosina Farmhouse is within 50 metres of our Shala, featuring breathtaking views of Comino Island, The Blue Lagoon and the surrounding nature, with its own large private pool and comfortable living spaces. Designed with rustic features paired with modern elegance.

The farmhouse has three double bedrooms set across two floors, two of which have their own private sea facing terraces and one having a terrace facing towards the front of the house. On the ground floor is an open kitchen and dining area with doors that lead to the communal terrace, bbq and pool area that overlook the sea.

We open this house during the peak season from May to October, offering space for 3-4 guests.
